9-11 MEMORIAL, Ocean City NJ
In March, Ocean City PATCH first reported the construction of a 9-11 Memorial at the Fire Department (6th. Street & Asbury Avenue).  The sculpture will include an artifact from the World Trade Center, specifically an I-beam that was discovered in the rubble. The artifact was requested from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey by our mayor, Jay Gillian.

Ocean City is working with the Community Art Projects (CAP) group and artist José Chora to design and build the memorial.

“We are honored to have this piece of the World Trade Center as the focal point of the new community sculpture,” Gillian says. “We hope this memorial serves as a place for reflection and remembrance of the heroism and heartbreak that occurred on that tragic day.”

The official dedication of the Ocean City 9-11 MEMORIAL is scheduled for September 11, 2012. Guests of the Scarborough Inn can easily walk to the ceremony - less than 10 minutes from our bed and breakfast - to witness this historic event.
