NJ Places to Visit, Veterans Monument

As we commemorate Veterans Day 2010, I will share the location of a War Memorial close to Ocean City NJ that Jersey Shore visitors can easily view while in the area.  We will gladly supply Scarborough Inn Bed and Breakfast guests with directions to the Atlantic City WW I Memorial.

Constructed in 1922, the structure resembles a Greek temple and features a sculpture by Frederick McMonnies titled "Liberty in Distress."  Centered in the rotunda of the memorial, Lady Liberty holds a broken sword and is surrounded by a soldier and symbols of war.  Columns on the outer ring of the temple name World War I battles and feature medallions from the various military services.

The World War I monument is located at O'Donnell Park, South Albany at Ventnor Avenue in Atlantic City NJ.  The memorial has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August, 1981.
