Ocean City NJ, Fall Beach Sweep
On October 23 (2010) from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, interested people are invited to join the Fall Beach Sweep in Ocean City NJ. Volunteers will meet at the Music Pier (Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk) to be assigned to a group and receive instructions and equipment. Groups will use Data Cards to record what litter is picked up. This information will be entered into a national database of marine debris.
Launched in 1985 by Clean Ocean Action (COA), the purpose of the "counted cleanup" is to rid beaches of unsightly or harmful debris. Beach Sweep is one of the longest running cleanups of its kind in the world. The local effort is sponsored by the Ocean City Environmental Commission, the Clean Communities Program, and Clean Ocean Action.
These semiannual Beach Sweeps allow residents and visitors to take an active role in maintaining a clean environment. Of course, beachgoers are always encouraged to help keep our Ocean City beaches pristine!
