Perfect Spring Morning
I woke up early this morning and by 6:30 am I was standing at the door, cappuccino in hand, gazing out at a perfect spring morning. The sky was a cloudless blue, the sun was shinning, and the moon was still a translucent white ball hovering above the horizon.
Song birds were calling to each other in an incredible variety of trills and chirps. Sometimes I would catch a glimpse of one on the wing, but mostly it was an unseen chorus. If I were a birder, I could listen to the song and say, "there's a Cardinal...that's a Sparrow...hear the Grackle!" I have a friend who can do that; in fact, she studies bird calls so that she can identify a species strictly from its song. Incredible! I just enjoy the Morning Chorus.
Seagulls and other water birds ride gentle swells near the wetlands selecting tidbits for breakfast. Below, the grass is lush following weeks of rainy weather. A small brown rabbit is enjoying the bounty and is leisurely nibbling tender green stalks.
Sometimes it seems like Ocean City is crowded with man-made structures, but if you know where to look, you can find nature and a perfect spring morning on the island.
